On 27 September the National Flag of Georgia flies at half-mast at the Embassy of Georgia in Ireland

Today, on 27 September 2024, the National Flag of Georgia flies at half-mast at the Embassy of Georgia in Ireland, to mark the 31st anniversary of the tragic fall of Georgian city Sokhumi in Abkhazia region of Georgia to the hands of illegal military groups supported by the Russian regular army.

The fall of Sokhumi was accompanied by mass murders and ethnic cleansing of hundreds of thousands of Georgians from Abkhazia, Georgia.

31 years on, Sokhumi and entire Abkhazia region remains under illegal occupation of the Russian Federation.

On this tragic day, we honour the memory of all the men and women, who fell heroically in defense of Sokhumi and Abkhazia, Georgia as well as pay respects to those innocent civilians, our compatriots, who were victimized by the invading hordes and Russian occupation regime.
